Help Keep Art Alive

Doors : Orators

The morning was bright and I was happy being in Philadelphia with Baby. He was always his own adventure and I loved being taken on it. We were traveling to New York to see his cousin Alana and her Band , The Majority Rules ,  perform at the Mercury Lounge. Baby is in Philly working as Producer and star of Carl the Movie. This movie is his good friend Harveys  creation. Although they had made movies together before , this one is going to be a feature film. I was , am learning so much about the world of movie production. I only want to bask in the shadow and watch my Baby and Harvey shine, but I am learning that the door to the Movie Theater is only one door to making that movie come alive.

So the doors of the Mega Bus to New York opened and inside we ventured. On the left side of the bus the seats were higher allowing for a different view than the seats on the right which were floor level. We were hesitant at first but i chose the lower level and by the time Baby pointed out the view would of been better for my first trip to New York it was too late. Our fate had been sealed, down we sat. The seating arrangement reminded me of my Uncle Walts RV. There were four seats , in pairs facing each other with a table in the middle. A couple smiles on their faces joined us. She had an instrument case in hand that was placed in a nook behind her seat neck level. He pulled out some sheet music. She had eyes that sang and an unpolished beauty about her. I could see through her rushed out the door but it didn't really matter look that she was full of melodies. He had the appearance of a Renaissance Era playwright something in his eyes , the way his hair and mustache reminded me of Shakespeare. He smiled cautiously. They were to me Melody and Rhyme and I wanted to hear them sing.  I am more of a tambourine. Opening my mouth I began to ting.

I greeted them and said how excited i was to be going to New York and if i could ask, why were they going. She answered and replied that they were going to an audition to be part of the music ensemble  of  Milwaukee  Theatre's future production of  Cabaret. She played the banjo ukulele  and he played the Chello We all exchanged names and common interests. There was talk of Babys project and of the world of acting which they both also were a part of. Kate was her name. Kate Raines . His was John Greenbaum. She told me how she had been part of a production , a music video /film by Paul Natale.  http://ctfilmfest.com/site/node/372  it is called Truth it is and it had been screened at the Philly, Cincinnati and Bulgaria film festivals. She lit up telling me about it so i wanted to tell others about it.  I wanted to know about their experience with acting. My life now a boat with a course I am sure is fixed now through that life with Baby. She told me of her upbringing far from the city a country mouse with a longing and desire to act , to perform , to entertain. He was a city mouse groomed for the life of the stage, a performer from early on. They both starred into the crowd dazzling them with great performances. They had signed their share of Playbills , ticket stubs and paper. Autographed hearts. When they weren't performing they were still performing only a different type of crowd. The morning , noon and night restaurant  crowd by serving other needs besides entertainment. The dream of the big break always there , serving others was not beneath them. Wasn't that what it is all about in the end , Others.

Baby and John began speaking of the different personalities of actors , of how hard it is to find the right person for the part or finding them and then they turn into a Its All About Me personality. There were always problems in the business they both agreed. There were those demanding and non demanding, some expecting too much , others you were always expecting to show up and didn't even call to say they weren't. Johns view on acting he explained was that . "Acting was a craft not an art", "There is no room for the "Wheres my spot light" attitude. Everyone matters even the smallest part. If they mess up then everyone is looking at them and that affects everyone." John then stated, "Acting is not Drama Club. It can be  extremely rewarding but that does not come without hard work and effort.." I was pleased they allowed me into their world. It helps me on my journey with Baby. He enjoyed the familar he was able to share with them. At that we said hello to quiet contemplation. John again pulled open his sheet music and Kate practiced the banjo-ukulele as the bus drove through New Jersey greenery on to the Big Apple which we were all ready to take a bite out of.

So the doors of the Mega Bus opened and we said our goodbyes entering a new moment in time. I did so enjoy the ride.
